Susan Clarinda Whisenand Mayfield

A life of 85 years and six months, spent entirely in Bloomington, was closed at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the death of Susan C. Mayfield, widow of Jesse Mayfield, Civil War veteran, in her home at 403 East Sixth Street. A complication of diseases and the frailties of advanced age caused her demise. Mrs. Mayfield's only survivors are nieces and nephews. They are: Mrs. Emsley Stanger, of Ellettsville, Mrs. Hamlin Headley, of this County, Mrs. Jake Goodman, of Illinois, Miss Sue Minett, of Brazil, George Whisenand, of this County, Walter Whisenand, of Champaign, Illinois, Sam Whisenand, of Martinsville, Ross, John and Joe Whisenand, of Indianapolis, and Tom Whisenand, of Brazil. Until ill health caused her confinement, Mrs. Whisenand [sic] was active in many organizations. She was a life long member of the First Christian Church, a charter member of the Ladies of the G. A. R., an honorary member of the Relief Corps and was also affiliated with the Rebekah Lodge. Funeral rites will be conducted from the First
Christian Church at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. W. E. Moore, pastor, in charge. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Flowers will be carried by: Mrs. Rex Forsythe, Mrs. Alva Parks, Mrs. John Bright, Mrs. Everett Neese, Mrs. Earl Stanger, and Mrs. Marion Davis. Pallbearers will be: Edward Humphrey, George Love, John Shumaker, Landis Pressler, Ed Richardson and Keith Johnson.
