He was born on February 15, 1858, at Charlottestown, Prince Edwards Island. he remained there until the age of 14 when he came to crookston where his uncle, Robert Houston, owned part of a townsite. He found employment in the round house of the Great Northern railroad and in October, 1880, he was given an engine. He was an engineer running on the northern division from that time until just recently, when he retired from active service with the company.
He leaves besides his wife, three children, Mrs. John Boh of Crookston; William E and Albert E. who is a machinist in the railroad shops at St. Paul.
The funeral of the late W.J. Jewell will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with the Rev. Father Joseph Wurm officiating. The remains can be viewed at the residence, 804 South Main street, Thursday afternoon and evening.
