"The LaFayette Sun" - June 21, 1893:

At half-past seven o’clock on last Thursday evening, at the residence of the bride’s father, and in the presence of a large assembly of invited guests, Rev. A. S. Smith performed the beautiful and impressive ceremony that united in holy marriage Miss Estelle Abernathy to Mr. O. B. Newman. The guests had assembled; then the bridal couple marched down to the rear of the room followed by the attendants, Mr. J. R. Newman with Miss Marcella McIntosh and Mr. J. M. Newman with Miss Ina Abernathy. Altogether the ceremony was beautiful and impressive. The bride has always been considered to be very pretty, but on this occasion she was surpassingly lovely. She is the eldest daughter of Mr. D. H. B. Abernathy, and her beauty is not by any means the greatest of her attractions. She has many womanly qualities that fit her for the sphere of a good wife. The groom is the son of Mr. W. H. Newman and he has bright prospects for a career of usefulness. He is talented, moral, bright, and energetic, and he and his lovely bride are each to be congratulated. Immediately after the ceremony all repaired to the spacious dining hall, where the table fairly groaned beneath its weight of delicious viands. The house was beautifully decorated. We join their many friends in extending congratulations and best wishes and,

“May strength be his and sweetness hers to cheer,
With rhythmic step march upward side by side;
And perfect trust and tender sympathy,
Abide with them whatever may betide.”

AND...

On Thursday evening, the 15th inst. at 7 o’clock, at the residence of the bride’s father, Mr. D. H. B. Abernathy, Mr. O. B. Newman and Miss Estelle Abernathy were joined in the holy bonds of matrimony. Rev. A. S. Smith, in a solemn and impressive manner, pronounced the mystic words that united these young lives. The reception on the following day at the residence of Mr. W. H. Newman was elegant indeed. The many guests will long remember the kind hospitality of this family. The time was pleasantly beguiled with music, croquet and other amusements until the lengthening shadows warned them that all things must end. We wish for this young couple a long and prosperous wedded life.
