Coon Rapids - Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the Anderson Funeral Home here for George Albert Howell, 88, of Coon Rapids, who died about 6:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony Hospital, Carroll. The Rev. Morris L. Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Howell, retired farmer, had lived in Carroll County since he was seven years old and in his present home at Coon Rapids the last six years. He was born April 17, 1870, in Wapello [sic] County, Iowa, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. [sic] Howell. Mr. Howell was married May 6, 1952, to Myrtle Umbaugh in Carroll. Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Carl (Maude) Rasmussen, Jefferson, and a son, Roy Howell, Ottumwa, children of a former marriage; and one sister, Mrs. Nora Adams, Cumberland, Iowa, He was preceded in death by two sons, two daughters and his parents. George Albert Howell, 86, of Coon Rapids, a former Ottumwan, died at 2 a.m. today in a hospital in Carroll. He was born April 17, 1872 [sic] near Ash Grove, [Davis County]. He lived in Ottumwa when a child later moving to near Coon Rapids where he farmed. After retiring he came to Ottumwa where he made his home with his son, Roy A. Howell, for several years. He returned to Coon Rapids about ten years ago. Mr. Howell was a member of the Masonic lodge. His first wife,Lillian, preceded him in death. Besides his son he is survived by his wife, Myrtle, a daughter. Maude Rasmussen of Jefferson and seven grandchildren, including Ronald and Roger Howell of Ottumwa.
