MRS. NELLIE BENDER

Mrs. Walter Bender, 63, of Chicago, Ill., died suddenly at her home on Tuesday evening, Feb. 2, 1943, following a heart attack.

Mrs. Bender, formerly Mrs. Nellie Gasser Allen, was born in Chariton and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Gasser. She grew to womanhood here and graduated from Chariton high school.

She was married to Clay Allen, of Russell, whose death occured in 1930. About 5 years ago she was married to Walter Bender, who survives her.

She also has one sister, and three brothers, Mrs. Carrie Manning, George Gasser and Emmett Gasser, all of Pocatello, Idaho, and Dr. Roland Gasser, in the service and in charge of a hospital at Corpus Christie, Texas.

She loved her many friends and ever planned to do nice things for other people. She joined the Presbyterian church in her youth, but when she moved to Chicago she was affiliated with the Methodist and was keenly interested in its many benevolences.

She was a member of the Austin Woman's club and cheerfully did her part for the advancement of the organization. She enjoyed her Red Cross work and could always be counted on to be at her assigned post.

She was a member of the White Shrine and the Order of Eastern Star, enjoyed their meetings, and whole-heartedly performed her appointed tasks, but her ambitions exceeded her strength and she was summoned to a higher court where her reward is sure and her rest eternal.

Funeral services were held at Chicago Thursday afternoon and the body was brought to Chariton, arriving here Friday evening. Final rites were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, at the Beardsley funeral home, conducted by the Rev. A. P. Landgraf, of the Presbyterian church, and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.

Those from a distance were her husband, Walter Bender, and his daughter, Mrs. Blanche Senne, both of Chicago; Mrs. Bender's sister, Mrs. Carrie Manning, of Pocatello, Idaho; and Mrs. Sam Goltry and Mrs. Nina Goltry, of Indianola.
