Fairmount, Ill.- Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Carrington Funeral Home in Fairmount for Vernon Hickman, 80, of Fairmount. He died at 8:12 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 12, 1980) at his home. Death was attributed to natural causes. The Rev. Harold Simmons will officiate. Burial was Tuesday afternoon at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery east of Fairmount. Born Oct. 16, 1900, at his farm home near Fairmount, he was the son of George W. and Sadie P. Hopper Hickman. He was married Nov. 25, 1922, at Urbana to Cora Mae Cheuvront, who died March 9; 1960. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Anita Dowers of Fairmount; five sons: George E. of Elmhurst, Phil of Danville, Glen of Virginia Beach, Va., Paul of North Bend, Ore., and Kenneth of Fort Richardson, Alaska; a brother, Wayne of Catlin; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son and two brothers. DANVILLE COMMERCIAL-NEWS, 13 August 1980.Life long farmer. Vernon ran the Hickman farm for many years until he became to old and then sold much of it and contracted the rest out to other farmers. The farm was sold in the early 1980's
