C.E. was the youngest child of John Henry Gibbens and Catherine Melinda Dey. His siblings were Christia, Mary Elizabeth, Andrew Ancel, Sarah Etta, Marilda Ann, Julia Marie, Delbert B., Jacob L., and Jason W.

On January 6, 1906, C.E. married Erla Lilian Hummel. Together they had seven children:
Lewis Wilson (1906-1972, married Marjorie Zeller)
Dorothy M. (1908-?, married Samuel Eisenhuth)
Ruth Marian (1913-?, married Ira Johnston)
Clarence E. (1919-?, married Dorothy Sousae-Stover)
Robert W. (1922-?)
Charles Edward Jr. (died before 1964)
Virginia (died before 1964)

Erla passed away in 1939. On May 10, 1940, C.E. married Margaret Cummings (1887-1966). All three are buried in Franklin Cemetery.

FRANKLIN -- Charles Edd. Gibbens of 1035 Elm St. died at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday.

He was born at Cooperstown, August 21, 1882, the son of John H. Gibbens and Caroline Dye Gibbens.

Mr. Gibbens is survived by his wife Margaret Cummings Gibbens. His first wife, Earla Hummell, died January 22, 1939.

His surviving children are Louis W. Gibbens of Erie, Mrs. Samual (Dorthy) Eisenhuth of Franklin, Mrs. Ira (Ruth) Johnston of Franklin, and C.E. Gibbens of Franklin, and Robert W. Gibbens of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Gibbens had two children deceased, Charles and Virginia.

Also surviving are two brothers Jason Gibbens of Newburg, Mo., and Delbert Gibbens of Meadville; and 18 grandchildren.

Mr. Gibbens was a steam-fitter and years ago was employed by the Atlantic Oil Co. of Franklin. Later he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and then by the Joy Mfg. of Franklin.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the church.

Bee keeping was his hobby.
