Elida - Noble William Thomas, 89, died at 5:25 a.m. March 9, 2010, at VanCrest Health Care Center, Delphos.

He was born September 17, 1920, in Lima to Walter F. and Mary Hunsaker Thomas, who preceded him in death.

On September 11, 1948, he married Shirley Edwards, who survives.

Mr. Thomas was a lifelong farmer and had been a carpenter working through Carpenters Union 372, Lima. He had been a trustee for Sugar Creek Township for eight years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany, where he received the Bronze Star. He had been a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6741, Elida, and the Gomer Dads Club. He was a member of Cairo United Methodist Church, Cairo. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling and especially his children and grandchildren.

Survivors also include a son, William "Bill" Thomas, of Elida; two daughters, Susan (John) Sarber, of Galena, and Linda (Mike) Fay, of Cairo; six grandchildren, Jeff (Andrea) Fay, Mallory Fay, James (fiancée Megan Best) Fay, Peter Thomas, Evan Thomas and Mark Thomas; and two great-grandchildren, Alyson and Carter Fay.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Amos "Brownie" Thomas.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Cairo United Methodist Church, Cairo. Pastor Rich Rakay will officiate.

Burial will be in Cairo East Side Cemetery, Cairo, with military rites.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cairo United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund.
