Funeral services for Jamelia Cretandra "Meme" Brown, 18, of Grenada, were held Saturday at Grenada High School auditorium.

Burial followed in Haven Rest Cemetery.

Miss Brown died Jan. 16, 2010, of smoke inhalation in Hoover, Ala.

She was born on March 18, 1991, and was the daughter of Sandra and Antwan Townes and Rodney Brown, all of Grenada.

Miss Brown was a student on an academic scholarship at Mississippi University for Women, a member of Washington Street Church of Christ, and a member of the social club Troubadour. She was also a 2009 graduate of Grenada High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the softball team, and the manager of the track and basketball teams. She loved music, softball, and writing poetry.

In addition to her parents, surviving Miss Brown are three sisters, A'Kyria Brown, Trinity Brown, and Patricia Gross; three brothers, Javarius Brown, Eric Morgan and David Tidwell; and grandparents, W. C. and Elizabeth Moore, Pauline Moore, Archie Brown, all of Grenada.

She is preceded in death by a grandmother, Isabell Brown, of Grenada.

Clark-Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
