Hershel L. Butler Sr., 85, of Louisville, passed away Saturday at University Hospital. He was a native of Hart County, Ky., a retired plastic controlman at General Electric, where he worked for 25 years and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Leonard Catholic Church, St. Vincent dePaul Society and Abraham Masonic Lodge #8. Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Pauline Cissell; daughters, Mary Catherine Hurst Conti and her husband, Jim, Cynthia Hurst Portello and her husband Michael, and Janet Smothers and her husband Larry; one son, Hershel L. Butler Jr. and his wife, Beverly; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 440 Zorn Ave., with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Monday at Ratterman's, 3800 Bardstown Rd. Memorial gifts may go to St. Leonard Catholic Church.
