SGT. WILLIAM H. ALFERS, 51, switchboard operator for the Louisville Police Department for eight years, died at 10 a.m. yesterday at General Hospital. Alfers, who lived at 1120 Logan, had been ill for several weeks. Prior to 1942, he had been a sergeant in the Park Police Division for seven years. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Alice Alfers; a daughter, Miss Bernice Ann Alfers; two sons, William Alfers, Jr., and Herman Alfers; his mother, Mrs. Catherine H. Alfers; and a sister, Mrs. Paul Seadler. Funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow at Russman's Chapel and at 9 a.m. at St. Vincent dePaul Church. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.

Alfers (nee Bartlett); devoted father of William H. Alfers, Jr., Herman J. Alfers and Bernice Ann Alfers; loving brother of Mrs. Paul Seadler; dear son of Mrs. Catherine Hoffman Alfers. Sgt. Alfers is at the Godfrey F. Russman Funeral Home, 1041 Goss Ave. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock in the Russman Chapel and 9 o'clock at St. Vincent dePaul Church. Interment in St. Michael's Cemetery. Members of the St. John's Sick Benevolent Society are kindly requested to assemble in the funeral home, Friday at 8 p.m. to recite the Rosary.
