NEWCOMB, June De Muth June 25, 1922 - March 2, 2010 June De Muth Newcomb was born in Lancaster. Her father, Jesse, worked on the family's ranch on the east side, and her mother, Florence, served as a teacher and later as principal at Roosevelt Grammar School. After June graduated from Antelope Valley High School in 1940, the family relocated to Santa Monica and then to the Pacific Palisades where she would remain. June attended U.C.L.A., graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. Upon graduation in 1944, she was employed at the Standard Oil refinery in El Segundo until the end of World War II. June married Army Captain Carl Newcomb shortly after the war and returned to U.C.L.A., earning a Master's degree in Education. She taught English as a Second Language at Daniel Webster Junior High School in Los Angeles for 30 years. During her retirement, June enjoyed traveling by cruise ship to the four corners of the world. A lover of culture and learning in all its forms, she frequented theater performances and museum exhibits, as well as enjoyed sports on television. Her favorite team was the Lakers. June is survived by her cousins, Marge Hulsizer and Dick Jacobsen. Graveside services to be held at Lancaster Cemetery at 11 a.m., tomorrow, Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
