Last Rites For Miss Clara
W. Blackman

Members of the Principals club and many public school teachers attended the funeral of Miss Clara W. Blackman, held a 2 o'clock this afternoon at the family residence, 25 Sherburne ave..
Miss Blackman, who die Sunday after a protracted illness, had been a teacher in the public schools 33 years. As a grade school teacher in the Franklin school, she began her professional work in 1874. In 1885, when Merriam Park became a part of St. Paul and the district school of two rooms became the Longfellow school, Miss Blackman was was appointed principal. She filled the position 22 years, resigning in 1907 on account of ill health.
During the last few years, Miss Blackman devoted herself to literary work and the study of genealogy. She visited in the East and South to collect material for the genealogy of the Blackman family, which she compiled.
Her brother, W. A. Blackman is her only survivong relative.
