William Findling, age 79, one of the prominent farmers and stock-men of this county died Thursday morning at his home following a long illness with heart trouble.

Mr. Findling, through hard work and determination acquired considerably property during his lifetime. He was one of the big hog raisers of the county. William Findling was born December 27, 1861, in Indianapolis, the son of Valentine and Louisa (Goyer) Findling. He was one of a family of eight children and of these, two half-brothers and a half-sister survive; C.E. Findling, west of Tipton; Arthur Findling, of Kokomo and Mrs. Lela Vandevender, of Goldsmith.

The deceased came to this county with his parents when he was 7 years of age. He attended the school at Independence and completed the studies there, working on a farm in the summer months. When 20 years of age, he worked in a tile factory but a year later started in business for himself by renting a farm of 80 acres which he later bought. This is the Findling homestead southwest of Tipton. he was thrifty and hard working and over a period of years accumulated considerable land.


Mr. Findling married Elizabeth D. Glass on Mar. 18, 1885 and they are the parents of eight children. Surviving besides the widow are, Clyde, Rome, Ray, Arthur and Ralph.
