William was also a member of Co. K. 1st PA Cavalry, but was discharged on account of ill health.
He returned and engaged in farming until the autumn of 1896 when he retired and moved to Pittsburgh. He died in 1898 in Pittsburgh, PA of ill health.

William Ewing, farmer, P.O. Frankfort springs, was born in Frankfort Feb. 5, 1833, and is a son of John Ewing, a native of Allegheny County. His ancestors were natives of Chester county, and of Scotch descent. John was a tanner by trade, and carried on business in Frankfort many years. He was a popular man in the township and filled the office of justice of the peace for many years. He died in 1863 aged sixty-three years. His wife was Sarah, daughter of John Ferguson, and their children were Jane (deceased), Ellen, Sarah A., Eliza, James (deceased), William and John. William was educated at Frankfort springs, and has been a farmer all his life. He was married, Nov. 13, 1856, to Margaret, daughter of Jacob Keifer, and she is the mother of seven children: John B., William K., Jacob G., Charles S., Margaret, Horace G. and Sarah A., who died at the age of nine years and seven months. Mr. and Mrs. Ewing are members of the Frankfort Springs Presbyterian Church, of which he has been a trustee. He is a Republican, and has been elected school director.
