John T. "Jack" LaRue, 83, passed away Tuesday at Loretto surrounded by his family. Born in Liverpool on July 17, 1921, he lived in Syracuse before moving back to Liverpool in 1970. Jack retired from Stroehmann Bros. Bakery after 44 years in the wholesale bakery business. After retirement he was a volunteer for Onondaga County Parks where he was named volunteer of the year in 1994. During the Christmas season he was a professional Santa Claus for many charitable and civic organizations including the Syracuse Police Benevolent Assoc. for 20 years. He was a WWII Army veteran, a member of Valley Mens Club, Valley Little League, Valley American Legion Post 1468, Liverpool American Legion Post 188 and Syracuse Turners. He was also a Charter Usher at Our Lady of Lourdes, Syracuse, and St. Joseph the Worker Church, Liverpool. He is survived by his wife Dolores K.; three sons, Peter J. of Syracuse, John P. "Jack" of Williamsburg, MA, Mark D. of Lafayette, LA; two granddaughters, Yvette and Kaitlin LaRue of Amherst, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 9:15 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2005, from the Maurer Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1001 Tulip St., Liverpool. Burial will be in Liverpool Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St. Liverpool, NY.
