..... Dr. Daniel Lott , 'One of the Founding Father's of Waycross'.... The first Lotts to come to this country were of Danish descent , the family having been founded by three brothers of the name who came to America during the eighteenth century ; one settling in South Carolina and the other two in Georgia, some of whom became merchants and planters.. Dr. Daniel Lott descended from Joel Lott and Rhoda Davis... Dr. Lott was born not far from Waresboro in 1828, four years after the County of Ware was organized (December 15, 1824 cut out of Appling County)..He was educated in the schools of his native county and after farming a short while took up the study of dentistry under an able preceptor, becoming skilled in his profession to which he devoted his attention for a number of years at Waresboro where he remained until November of 1871, when he retired from practice and moved to what is now Waycross, although at that time it was a wilderness of pine trees.. He became owner of the land, where the City of Waycross is now located and his was the first family to locate here, after he laid out the town.. Dr. Lott was not only the first dentist in Ware but opened the first real estate office ... He owned several saw mills, which he put into operation and sold the plants. In 1847 was elected Ware County Sheriff, in 1851-52 was elected to represent his county in the State Legislature, served one year, then was elected in 1853-54 to the State Senate, of which he was a member one term.. He was a man of sterling character, prominent and influential in local affairs. At the inception of the War between the States, he went forth as a loyal soldier of the Confederacy as a Private in the Fourth Georgia Cavalry.. Soon after enlistment , however, he was elected in 1853-56, 1863 and 1867 as Judge of the Inferior Court and through assuming the duties of this office Dr. Lott was exempt from Military service.. He was elected Judge of County Court 1867-68, served as ordinary from 1856-58, 1868-1871, all before moving to Junction in 1871.. He was first Mayor of Waycross , serving from 1872-1874, then Dr. William Barden Folks was elected.. It was largely through his efforts that the County seat of Ware was transferred from Waresboro to Waycross of which town he was one of the four Founding Fathers'.. Dr. Lott gave to Ware County her first Court House, this being a small donation to this town compared to his other liberal gifts of land upon which to put many of the City and County buildings... In addition to holding several offices in county government, he was a charter member in 1857 to the Masons of Waresboro Lodge # 217, his interest in farming continued to growning corn, grapes and was listed in the Georgia Gazetteer as being a wine manufacturer.. In the town he built a warehouse/station for the trains that housed the first telegraph office and also a printing press from which the first town's Newspaper, the Waycross Headlight, was printed beginning in 1876.. A marble marker at the site of his house that he called 'Hilltop', a large Victorian house, the first one in Waycross, to encourage people to build nice houses in the new village, he offered to give a lot of one acre of land to anyone who would build a house with glass windows... Dr. Daniel Lott died at his home at the age of 52 years and was buried in Lott's Cemetery that was his land at that time .....
