Demal I. Mattson, of Charleston, died March 7, 2010 in Mt. Pleasant.

Born on March 27, 1913 in Charleston, he was the son of the late Demal and Mazie Loretta (Chapman) Mattson.

Demal was a lifelong resident of Charleston graduating from Bishop England High School. He was the widow of the late Adaline Mattson who preceded him after 70 years of marriage in 2005.

He was the longtime owner/operator of Mattson Transportation. Demal lived a very active life, where he was involved with many local organizations including: life member of the Hibernian Society, former member of the Charleston Rifle Club, Knights of Columbus, life member of The Charleston Elks Club #242, former member of the Navy League of Charleston, The South Carolina Motor Transportation Association, and long time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

In Demal's free time, he could be found fishing the offshore waters of Charleston on his boat "Sweet Adaline" with his family and friends.

He is survived by one son, Demal Mattson, Jr. and wife Yvonne of Mt. Pleasant, two daughters, Theresa (Terri) Linder and husband Ed of Walterboro, Mary Frances Mattson and fiancée, Gregory Anderson of Sandy Springs, GA; eight grandchildren, Demal I Mattson, III, Caroline Mattson Mason and husband Tim, Michael Eugene Mattson, Lawton Alexander Mattson, Ted Linder, Greg Linder, Vicki Linder-Cottrell and husband Ed, Meredith Lynn Kubler; and 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers James Alex Mattson and Arnold Mattson.

Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery.
