Willard Emuel Craft, age 86 of Galveston died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 . Graveside services are 1:00 pm
Friday, March 5, 2010 at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home,
Reverend Ray Pinard officiating.
W.E. was born April 9, 1923 in Galveston, Texas to James Abraham Garfield Craft and Lily Mae Roden Craft. He
was a member of the Ball High School class of 1940 though he left school early to join the National Guard. He was
employed at Union Carbide as an operator where he retired with 35 years of service. He and Gladys Rae are members
of Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church. Mr. Craft was married in 1943 and established his home in Galveston
where he remained for the rest of his life. He loved to ride his bicycle on the seawall; in fact he loved to ride his bike so
much that when he was 14 he rode all the way to Dallas to see the state fair. W.E. taught his son how to play baseball,
seeing him through Little League and Pony Colt often as the manager or assistant manager of the team. He often called
home in the evenings while at work to tell the family to look at the stars or clouds that he found so interesting. After
retirement he walked early in the morning along the beach and watched the sun come up over the gulf. At nightfall he
again would watch the clouds and sunset. For many years the family went to Arkansas during the fall to see the trees
and foliage. I guess you could say he loved nature.
Preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Paul and James Alton Craft, survivors include his wife of
66 years, Gladys Rae Craft, a son, Willard E. "Tony" Craft, Jr. both of Galveston; a brother, Cloyd Gerald Craft of Texas
City, numerous other relatives and friends.
