Marcellus Masterson, native of Eugene, Ore., succumbed May 12 [13] at his home in Weaverville. His death was attributed to hemorrhage as a result of cancer.

He was a former P.G. and E. employee, who lived in the Helena vicinity for years before moving to Weaverville.

He is survived by his sisters, Mrs. Ella Baker, of Eugene, Ore., and Miss Marie Masterson of Alameda county, California. ~~~END~~~

A lifelong bachelor, Marcellus Masterson was named for his uncles: his mother's only brother, Marcellus Gillespie and his father's oldest brother, Givens Masterson.

He was a grandson of Rev. Jacob Gillespie, the first Presbyterian minister in Oregon. Rev. Gillespie was the founder of the Cumberland (now Central) Presbyterian Church in Eugene, Oregon and of Eugene's Columbia College [1855-1860], the precursor to the University of Oregon.

Marcellus Masterson was 14-years-old when his mother died.

Marcellus Masterson's sister, Indora Fisher is also buried in this cemetery.
