John "Jack" Turner married Malinda Denny and owned land off Newman Road in west Mobile. They lived next to Jack's sister Sarah Turner Battiste [w/o Jacob Pierre Battiste Sr.]; his parents, Noel and Sarah Turner lived in the area as did others in the Turner clan. I have not found a death record for Jack but Shady Grove Cemetery was formerly known as the Turner Family Cemetery. Jack's father preceded him in death in 1837 and I'm sure Jack was buried near his father and later his mother was buried there in 1891. Malinda Denny Turner's obit said her husband had died in 1843 and a petition for public aid was filed in 1844 for Malinda and the children by several citizens that stated her husband had died last year. Following are the names that petitioned for public assistance for the widow and children dated May 16, 1844. Several were related to the Turner family by blood or marriage.
