Rites Are Held For Erwin Harp

Erwin Claud Harp was born April 27, 1912 in Eureka Springs, Ark., to Charley Richard Harp and Ona Mae (Jackson) Harp and departed this life Dec. 16, 1989, in a Denver, Colo., hospital.

As a young boy, he moved to Fairfax, Okla., with his parents where he attended school. He also attended school at Sunny Slope and Pryor, Okla. He married Margaret Helen Miller Feb. 2, 1937. They had no children.

Erwin and Margaret lived and worked in various states in the western and central United States before settling in Pueblo, Colo., in July, 1950.

During World War II Erwin was in the Armored Field artillery, 10th Armored division, U.S. Army stationed at Fort Benning and Camp Gordon, Georgia. He received a medical discharge in 1943.

While in Pueblo, Erwin worked for the Missouri Pacific railroad for four years and for the Pueblo Public Schools system for 20 years, retiring in 1977. The greater part of his retirement was spent at his favorite spot --fishing.

Erwin was active member of Temple Baptist church and the Harvester's class Temple Baptist Sunday School in Pueblo.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret; two brothers, Herbert of Maize, Kan., and Charley of Guthrie, Okla.; three sisters, Evelyn (Mrs. Nathan) Hampton of Owasso, Okla., Vera Mae Henkle of Yucaipa, Calif., and Oleata (Mrs. Robert) Boles of Ponca City, Okla., and a host of relatives and friends. His parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 20, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. in Imperial Chapel with Pastor Waudell Maple officiating. Interment was in the Imperial Memorial Gardens (cemetery), Pueblo, Colo., with graveside military honors performed by an army team from Fort Carson.
