Wesley was born March 18, 1935 in Dierks, Arkansas to Wesley "Shortie" and Mildred Strother Cantrell. He graduated from Hugo High School, Paris Junior College and received his BBA degree from East Texas State University. He first married Margaret Ann Wells who preceded him in death in 1976. He then married Paula Jean Ruth on March 25, 1978 in Paris. Wesley was in the retail shoe store business for 43 years owning and operating Famous Shoe Store in Paris and Sherman's Shoes in Idabel, Oklahoma since 2006. He was a member of the Oak Park United Methodist Church. Mr. Cantrell served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Idabel Lions Club and was a 32nd degree Mason in the Paris lodge.
Wesley was definitely a "people person" as evidenced by his many friends he made while serving the community at the shoe store. When he took time to relax from his work, he enjoyed going fishing and enjoying the outdoors.
Mr. Cantrell is survived by his wife, Paula Cantrell of the home; one son, Mark Cantrell and wife, Kathy of Lindale, Texas; his grandson, Cody Cantrell and fiancé, Christie James of Fairbanks, Alaska; and his mother, Mildred Wade of Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Oak Park United Methodist Church, 2515 Bonham Street, Paris, Texas 75460.
