Sarah was the daughter of William H. and Amanda M. Riddles Estes. Her parents were first cousins and were married about 1857. Sarah was probably born at Speedwell, St Clair, Missouri. Her parents and siblings were here on the 18 Aug 1860 census, as well as her grandmother, Rebecca Riddles Estes and Sarah's aunts and uncles (Estes). Sarah's grandfather, Bluford Estes, died before 1860. Sarah's father, William, died between 1861-1870. Sarah's mother, Amanda, and the children, John Wesley, Rufus E. Estes and Sarah Almeda Estes came to Texas between 25 Dec 1861 and Oct 1863 with Amanda's father, stepmother (Thomas Amos Riddles & Mary Ann Ruyle Riddles) and Amanda's siblings. They were in Dallas County, Texas for the 1870 census. On the 1880 census Amanda Estes is at Lampasas, County, Texas with John Wesley and Sarah. Sarah's aunt, Mary Ann "Polly" Estes Hall, (Amanda's sister-in-law, who was also Amanda's first cousin) was in Lampasas County in 1880. That may be why Amanda moved there. Sarah Almeda Estes married Andrew Jackson Skiens on 15 Dec 1880 at Lampasas County, Texas. Andrew was the son of Plemon B. Skiens born about 1830 in Arkansas and Elizabeth born about 1833 in Tennessee. Sarah and Andrew were parents of eight children, five were living in 1900 when they were at Berlin, Roger Mills, Oklahoma. The Skiens family moved to Harney County, Oregon about 1906.
