Roy Schmidt
Roy Schmidt, 83 passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, surrounded by his children.
Born Jan. 27, 1920, on the farm that would be the center of his life, he was the son of Fred W. and Clara Stille Schmidt.
He was a dairy farmer. He loved working his horses and sharing them with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was a 4-H leader for several years. He was also a member of the Madison County Farm Bureau.
He married Dorothy Frisse on April 18, 1944. She passed away in 1951 after the birth of their fifth child.
Surviving are their children and spouses, Sandy Ohren and husband Tom; Ron Schmidt and wife Mary Jo, Rick Schmidt, Rodger Schmidt and wife Ruth, Rosemary Dorsey and husband Bruce; grandchildren of whom he was very proud, Steve Ohren, Angie Ohren, Graig Schmidt, Krisiti Hyten and husband Steve, Michael Dorsey and wife Jen, Laura Ohren, Brad Dorsey and wife Beth and their son Drew, Randy Schmidt, Eric Schmidt, Tim Dorsey, Rachael Schmidt and Kari Schmidt. His family also includes his sister and lifetime friend Dorothy Mateer and husband George, and a brother-in-law, Jered Nemnich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a sister, Hortense Nemnich.
Visitation was Sunday, Sept. 7, at Saska Mateer Funeral Home.
A funeral Mass-thinking God for sharing Mr. Schmidt with us was conducted Monday, Sept. 8, at St. Boniface Parish Center officiated by Rev. Fr. John Corredato.
Mr. Schmidt was laid to rest next to his wife in Calvary Cemetery.
