Services for E.W. Helweg, a prominent retired farmer, were held in the First Baptist Church. He married Lena Emily Voelkel in 1899 and the couple later moved to Johnson County. The couple moved to Haskell County in 1913 and lived eight miles southwest of Haskell. Mr. Helweg entered the hospital three months ago where he died. Mr. Helweg had been an active farmer until suffering a stroke in 1949 when he retired. He was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church and the Sons of Herman Lodge. Survivors include two sons - O.J. Helweg and Odell Helweg; one sister - Mrs. Antonio Hendricks; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
