C.J. Mabery married Barbara J. Gale March 26, 1947. They had one daughter Frances Dee Mabery.
C. J.'s parents are Jeff and Polly (Martin) Mayberry.

Funeral services for C.J. Mabery, 82 of Cookville, were held at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 3 at Center Grove Church of Christ. Burial was in Byers Cemetery. Mr. Mabery died Tuesday, Feb 1, 2011, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Jackson County to the late Jeff and Polly Martin Mayberry. Mr. Mabery was a retired factory worker. He was a member of Center Grove Church of Christ. His family includes his wife, Catherine Haney Mabery of Cookeville; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Barbara Mabery of Gainesboro and Kenneth and Cindy Mabery of Cookeville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Don Meredith, Sandy and Bobby Haney and Jo Ann and Cordell Ledbetter, all of Gainesboro; nine grandchildren, Cheryl Flatt, Theresa Fox, Stacy Potter, Brian Haney, Sheila Clouse, Chris Mabery, Amanda Jenkins, Dawn Meredith and Cody Mabery; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Gale Mabery (who died Dec. 20, 1991); a daughter, Frances Dee Mabery; a brother, Ewin Maberry; and three sisters, Ethel Flatt, Aline Flatt and Zora Flatt.
