R. B. McKinney, 69, 715 E. Pierce, well-known Kirksville barber, died Monday afternoon in a Kirksville hospital.
Funeral services will be held at the Dee Riley Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Edward F. Coffman, pastor of First Christian Church. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery. Fraternal rites will be conducted by Adair Lodge 366, A. F. & A. M. Mr. McKinney was the son of William and Cora Hulbert McKinney and was born in Knox County March 25, 1890. He was married at Edina April 18, 1910 to Ona Hunter, and to this union two children were born. He is survived by his wife; a son, James McKinney, Quincy, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. R. M. (Ruth) Warden, Quincy; two sisters, Mrs. Owen (Gail) McPherson, and Miss Maybelle McKinney, both of Kansas City, and a granddaughter, Janey McKinney, Quincy, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert. Mr. McKinney had been a barber for more than 50 years, having started in business at Novelty. He went later to Knox City, and came to Kirksville in 1914. For over 38 years he had been in partnership with C. B. Rich in Kirksville. Mr. McKinney was a member of Adair Lodge A. F. & A. M. 366 and served as master of the lodge twice; Caldwell Chapter No. 53, R. A. M.; Ely Commandery No. 22, Knights Templar; Kirksville Council No. 44, R. 7 S. M.; and a Shriner, with membership at Molla Temple, St. Joseph. Mr. McKinney was past president of the Kirksville Barber's Union, and a charter member of the union being the first president. He recently resigned this position. Bearers will be W. O. Mackie, Lloyd P. Sharp, Orin H. Kanan, Roscoe Martin, John X. Waters and Stanley Jones. KIRKSVILLE (Mo.) DAILY NEWS, 10 Sept. 1959, p. 5.
