He is the 6th child of thirteen children born to Thomas Jones Vaughan and Martha Peterson (Rives) Vaughan, only five of whom survived.

Peter first married Mary Whitmore of Fayette Co.,TN 2 Dec 1849 in Fayette Co., TN. They had 6 children.
In 1850, he immigrated from TN and built a log-house, went on to build the first brick farm house in the area. Bricks burned by him. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
In 1865, he was described as ag 40 6' dark hair and eyes with fair complexion.

Then married to Miss Sarah Rebecca "Sallie" Clark, on 12 APr 1866 Howell, Woodruff Co.,ARK. They had 8 children.
