Lieut. Col. Charles Humphreys of the artillery corps, lately stationed at Fort Du Pont, Del., is critically ill at the Army General Hospital, Washington Barracks. His family has been summoned to his bedside and he is not expected to live.

Lieutenant Colonel Humphreys was born in Pennsylvania, May 12, 1844, and was appointed to the army in 1867 as second lieutenant of the 3d Artillery. Two years before that he served as second lieutenant of the 1st New York Artillery. Colonel Humphreys received his first lieutenant's commission in 1870, was made captain in 1893, major in 1901 and lieutenant colonel in 1903. He graduated from the U.S. Artillery School in 1892. He is well known in Washington, where he has been stationed at various times.

Lieut. Col. Charles Humphreys of the Artillery Corps, U.S.A., died yesterday at the General Army Hospital, Washington barracks, aged 60 years. He was born in Pennsylvania in May, 1844 and entered the army as a second lieutenant, 3d Artillery, in 1867. He had previously served in the war of the rebellion as second lieutenant in the 1st New York Artillery. He was graduated from the Artillery School in 1892 and reached the grade of lieutenant colonel in August, 1903. For several months past he was stationed at Fort Dupont, Del. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Epiphany tomorrow morning at 10
