Erma Labelle Bray Nikolas

Erma LaBelle Bray Nikolas, 96, a longtime North Platte resident, passed away Jan. 31, 2006, at the Indian Hills Manor Nursing Home in Ogallala. She was born April 4, 1909, the daughter of Charles William and May Bell Messersmith Bray. She received her schooling in Stockville graduating from high school in 1927. Erma started working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Oxford, Nebraska in 1931. She worked for the telephone company, which became known as US West for 40 years. Her career took her many places. She went to Igloo, South Dakota, which served as an ammunition depot during World War II and later to Valentine and Rapid City, S.D. She retired from the North Platte office as a supervisor in 1971. Erma married John J. Nikolas Nov. 11, 1950, in Rapid City, S.D. He preceded her in death in December of 1971. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She had served as a president of the Telephone Pioneers and had been a member of the Retired Telephone Ladies. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Twila Claflin; a brother, Floyd Bray; three nieces and a nephew. Funeral services will be at the Adams & Swanson Funeral Home Chapel in North Platte. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.
