A short funeral service for Mrs. Amanda J. Hawpe was held from the home of G.K. Foster, Grottoes, at two o'clock Monday, Oct. 30, conducted by the Rev. C.H. Phipps of Mt. Horeb Presbyterian church, and continued at Mt. Carmel church at three-thirty o'clock by Dr. M.B. Grier of Old Providence church, of which she was a members, assisted by the Rev. Gaston Boyle.
Mrs. Hawpe celebrated her eighty-ninth birthday anniversary on the Fourth of July, last, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. G.K. Foster, with whom she had made her home for the past thirty-odd years. Her cheerful disposition shed a radiant of sunshine around all with whom she came in contact, and her passing will be mourned by friends, neighbors, and loved ones.
She is survived by one son, W.S. Hawpe, Greenville, and one daughter, Mrs. Foster, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
