George was born in Ravenwood, Missouri on February 20, 1874. George was the youngest of 7 children. His mother died sometime shortly after he was born. In the mid 1890's he moved to Coffey County, Kansas. Two of his brothers also moved to Kansas. Marion going first to the Franklin County area and then to the Stafford City area. Charles moved to the Pottawatomie Township in Coffey County. Pottawatomie is just a few miles south of Waverly, which is in the Rock Creek Township. George was living in the Pottawatomie area when he married Maggie on December 21, 1897 in Waverly. In 1899 they moved near his brother Marion in the Rose Valley Township of Stafford County. They continued to live and farm there for the reminder of their lives.

According to George's death certificate he suffered from arteriosclerosis heart disease. He was in the St. John Veterans Memorial Hospital in Stafford for 6 weeks and died from heart failure. He was 88 years old. His son Orrin Russell give the information on the death certificate.

Funeral service for George Russell was conducted at 10 a.m. this Thursday morning at the Peacock & Soice chapel with the Rev. Dan Bettis officiating. Interment was in the Stafford Cemetery.
A pioneer resident of the Stafford community, Mr. Russell had lived here since 1899. He was born February 20, 1874 in Ravenwood, Mo., and came to this area when a young man. In failing health for some time, he had been a patient in the St. John Hospital for the past six weeks. He passed away Tuesday night.
Survivors are four sons, Floyd, St. John; Orrin, Stafford; Wesley, Elizabeth, Colo., and Clyde, Stafford, eight grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
