Mrs. Wier, 53, 4th Generation Washingtonian
Mrs. Richard A. Wier, 53, a fourth-generation Washingtonian, died Thursday in Bethesda Naval Hospital after a long illness. She lived on Virginia Avenue NW.
Mrs. Wier, the former Elizabeth Ann Smallwood, was educated in Geneva at Brussels. She was a former regent of Richard Arnold Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the DAR State Officers Club and the Huguenot Society. During World War II she was a volunteer for the Red Cross Motor Corps.
She leaves her husband, a retired Navy commander; two daughters, Margaret Anne, of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Jean Stuart Passarella of Redwood City, Calif.; her mother mrs. Dorothy Hubbell Smallwood of Washington; a brother, Grahame T. Smallwood Jr., of Philadelphia, and a sister, Mrs. Paul M. Niebell of Lanham.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Bethlehem Chapel of Washington Cathedral.

Elizabeth Smallwood Wier, 53, wife of retired Navy Cdr. Richard Austin Wier, died Thursday of cancer at the Bethesda Naval Hospital.
A fourth-generation Washingtonian, Mrs. Wier was educated in Geneva and Brussels. She had traveled widely with her husband during his tours of duty.
She was a past regent of the Richard Arnold chapter of the DAR and was a member of its State Officers Club and the Huguenot Society. She also had served as a volunteer with the Red Cross Motor Corps during World War II.
In addition to her husband, of the home at 2475 Virginia Ave. NW, she is survived by two daughters, Margaret Anne Wier, of Philadelphia, and Jean Stuart Passarella, of Redwood City, Calif.; her mother, Dorothy Hubbell Smallwood, of Washington; a brother, Grahame Thomas Smallwood Jr., of Philadelphia, and a sister, Mrs. Paul Milton Niebell, of Lanham.
