Artist. Primarily a sculptor, he was born in Russia but studied in France, and eventually obtained French citizenship. His best known works are "The Destroyed City (De Verwoeste Stad)" which he worked on from 1951 to 1953, and stands today in Rotterdam, Netherlands as a tribute to the city, which was bombed by Germany during World War II, and "Orpheus" a 1956 bronze sculpture located in the Middelheim Museum, Antwerp, Belgium.
