Jacqueline Rhode - Receptionist
Jacqueline Mazzie Rhode, 62, a Vienna resident who had been head receptionist for Northern Virginia Pediatric Associates in Falls Church, died Sept. 18 at the National Institutes of Health intensive care unit in Bethesda. She had cancer.
Mrs. Rhode was born in Springfield, Mass. After her marriage in 1965, she accompanied her husband on his military assignments. They had a home in the Washington area since 1975 and settled permanently in 1989.
From 1978 to 1982, she was a legal secretary for a Vienna patent law firm, Geiger Associates. She began work at the pediatric practice in 1990.
She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Great Falls.
She was a former member of the Great Falls Players and helped organize and run the Virginia State DanceSport Championship. She was a former volunteer with the Westbriar Elementary School library in Vienna as well as with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Her avocations included gardening and quilting, and she specialized in Hawaiian quilts.
Survivors include her husband, retired Air Force Col. Storm C. Rhode III of Vienna; two children, Storm C. Rhode IV of Omaha and Jacqueline S. Longbottom of San Pedro, Calif.; her mother, Cecilia Mazzie of Chicopee, Mass.; and two grandsons.

On Sunday, September 18, 2005, of Vienna, VA. Beloved wife of Storm C. Rhode, III, COL USAF (Ret.); mother of Storm C., IV, Omaha, NE and Jacqueline S. Longbottom, San Pedro, CA; beloved daughter of Cecilia Mazzie, Chicopee, MA; grandmother of Storm, V and Austin.
Friends may call on Wednesday, October 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Money & King Funeral Home, Inc., 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, October 20, at 2:45 p.m. at Fort Myer Chapel. Interment Arlington National Cemetery. If desired, donations in her name may be made to American Institute of Cancer Research, 1759 R St., NW, Washington, DC 20009.

1943 - 2005
Vienna, Va - Jacqueline J. Rhode, 62, of Vienna, VA., who raised two children while traveling around the world as an Air Force spouse, died of cancer at the National Institutes for Health in Bethesda, Maryland on September 18, 2005.
Jacqueline was born on April 5, 1943 in Springfield and attended St. Stanislaus School and was a 1960 graduate of Chicopee High School. At Chicopee High School, she was a member of the drama club, won awards for shorthand and typing and graduated as a Pro Merito honors student. In addition to Virginia, she lived in New York, Canada, Maryland, Hawaii, Nebraska and Germany and visited many other exotic and exciting places. She loved New England, returning frequently to Chicopee and especially enjoying the Berkshires when she had time among her many travels.
Jacqueline worked as a bookkeeper for Bay State Elevator Co. in Springfield, as a legal secretary in Vienna and most recently as head receptionist for a pediatric clinic in Falls Church, VA. Jacqueline continued her high school interest in the dramatic and performing arts throughout her life. During earlier assignments in the Washington D.C. area, she was a member of the Great Falls (VA) Players. She assisted in organizing and running the Virginia Ballroom Dancing Championships for a number of years. She also served as a volunteer with the local Vienna elementary schools, with the Boy and Girl Scouts and with the U. S. military post office in Germany.
She was an avid gardener, spending many happy moments with a trowel and pruning shears amongst her beloved flowers. She won prizes in Hawaii for horticulture and large gardens at her Vienna home were cited by her neighbors as an "inspiration to us all." Jacqueline was also an award-winning quilter, specializing in Hawaiian quilts. She was noted for the beauty of her designs, her unique color combinations and the fine detail of her stitching. She was a member of St. Katherine of Siena Catholic Church in Great Falls, VA.
She is predeceased by her father, John J. Mazzie, who died on September 18, 1973. She is survived by her mother, Cecilia H. (Cebula) Mazzie of Chicopee; her husband of forty years, retired Colonel Storm C. Rhode III of Vienna; a son Storm C. Rhode IV of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter Jacqueline S. Longbottom and her husband, Jeffrey of San Pedro, CA and two grandchildren, Storm C. Rhode V and Austin. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus at 10 am. The burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery on October 20, 2005. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Institute of Cancer Research, 1759 R Street Northeast, Washington, D. C. 2009. Cierpial Funeral Home.
