Borgny Roe Ostby

Borgny Roe Ostby, 84, of Lake of the Woods, Locust Grove, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, in Culpeper.

Born June 8, 1921, in Northfield, Minn., she was the daughter of Adelaide Hjertaas Roe and Herman Roe.

She married John Leraan Ostby Sept. 19, 1941, in Northfield. He died in 1997. She shared 55 years with her husband during his career in the Marine Corps and during his practice of law.

Her life and her gift to so many was her music. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, where she sang in the famed St. Olaf Choir. She directed many church choirs in Hawaii, California and Virginia, including Lake of the Woods Choir, which she started as a charter member of the church. She was a soloist, and as a piano teacher for over 40 years, she shared the joy of music with countless students.

She was a member of the PEO, Orange County Republican Women's Club, Red Hat Society, Lioness Club, Piano Teachers Guild and Music Club.

Survivors include four children and their spouses, Bryn and Barbara Ostby of Palo Alto, Calif., Kristin and Russell Anderson of Eden Prairie, Minn., Mark Ostby of Lake of the Woods and Karl and Mary Alice Ostby of Kenosha, Wis.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Gertrude Anderson and Anna Kay Hofstad; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at The Lake of the Woods Church Saturday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

A reception will follow the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Lake of the Woods Church Building Fund, 1 Church Lane, Locust Grove, Va. 22508.
