"Andrew E. Tuck, 92, retired New York attorney and prominent in Larchmont, N.Y., activities for 40 years, died yesterday at the Girouard's St. Jude Nursing Home in South Barre. He had been a patient there two years. He had come to Plainfield in 1959 to live with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Tibbits. Burial will be in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Vermont where his wife and only son, Lt. Andrew E. Tuck III, are buried. His son a paratrooper officer, was killed in action in Germany in World War II. He was born in Lisbon, N.Y., May 11, 1874, the son of Andrew and Maria (Lynch) Tuck. The family moved when he was a child, to nearby Ogdensburg where he was educated. He received his bachelor of philosophy degree from Cornell University in 1898 and his bachelor of law degree in 1899. While in college, he edited the yearbook, was service officer of the ROTC, president of Delta Upsilon fraternity and was the ivy orator of his class. Admitted to the New York State Bar in 1899, he started work as a clerk in an Ithaca law office the following year and later moved to Rochester where he was a member of the firm of Hotchkins and Tuck. He also was instructor in military science and tactics at Cornell. (garbled text)...general of New York under Gov. Charles E. In 1911, he had been commissioned a second lieutenant with the 3rd Infantry Regiment of the New York National Guard and in 1916 attained the rank of major. Major Tuck, during World War I, was assigned as adjutant of the 4th New York Brigade, became depot adjutant, divisional adjutant of the 96th Division and company adjutant at Camp Wadsworth, S.C. After discharge, he entered the Equitable Life Assurance Society in 1919 as assistant secretary, later supervisor of corporate records and member of the federal tax commission for the Association of Life Insurance Presidents. In 1936, he became a vice president of the firm in charge of purchases, supplies and services units, and later in charge of home office administration. Major Tuck lived in Larchmont, N.Y., 40 years. He was a member of the board of governors of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus, as well as other Larchmont societies. He married Marie Fee of Rochester, June 15, 1916. She died Feb 7, 1956. Major Tuck leaves two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Colleen) Tibbits, Plainfield, and Mrs. James W. (Lorna) Colbert Jr, Bethesda, M.D., 14 grandchildren, James W. Colbert III, Edward Tuck Colbert, Mary Colbert, William Colbert, Margo Colbert, Thomas Colbert, John Andrew Colbert, Elizabeth Colbert, Paul Colbert, Peter Colbert and Stephen Colbert, all of Bethesda, M.D.; Elizabeth Tibbits, Lucy Tibbits and Andrew Tibbits, all of Plainfield, as well as nephews and nieces and more distant relatives in the Syracuse, N.Y. area."
