Rita Graham Tischer, 83, a registered nurse and a World War II veteran, died Friday from cancer at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton Township, Mercer County.
She was a Bordentown Township resident for the last 45 years and was born and raised in Lima, Ohio.
A registered nurse, Capt. Tischer was a World War II Army Nursing Corps veteran who served in Germany during the occupation following the war. She received a Commendation Ribbon.
She also was a nurse at the Walson Army Hospital at Fort Dix, the Yardville Correctional Center, and the Bordentown Reformatory. She retired in the late 1970s.
She was a graduate of St. Rita School of Nursing in Lima, Ohio.
She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Bordentown City and the church's Altar and Rosary Society.
She also was a member of the National Association of Federal Employees, the AARP, the Bordentown Township Senior Citizens, the Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085 Auxiliary, and the Bordentown Historical Society.
She is survived by daughters Mary Kay Seitz and Jane Moore; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three brothers; and a sister. She was the widow of retired Maj. Philip A. Tischer.
Friends may call from noon tomorrow in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown City, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Aug. 2 with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
