Bomber Gproup (Heavy), 15th Air Force during
World War II.

Pilot of B-24D Liberator #42-40203 "Little
Isadore." Shot down in/near Campodoro, Italy,
while on bombing mission to strike the Vicenza
marshaling yards.

He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.

JOHN L. SONAGLIA MISSING IN WAR ACTION
2nd Lieut. John L. Sonaglia, 23, has been missing in action in Italy since Tuesday, Dec. 28.
2nd Lieut. Sonaglia, left the United States in October for the European Theater of World War II & was 1st pilot on a B-24 Liberator Bomber with the 515th BS 376th Bomb Group 15th United States Army Air Corps.
His mother is Mrs. A. Sonaglia & daughter, Norma, live at 100 Main Street, Iron Mountain, Michigan.
2nd Lieut. Sonaglia was born in Iron Mountain, where he graduated from high school & then enrolled in Northern Michigan College, Marquette, Michigan, where he studied aeronautics.
ENLISTED IN 1942
2nd Lieut. Sonaglia enlisted in the Army Air Corps Feb. 1942 but did not begin his training until July. His training was in several fields stateside & he was commissioned & presented his Silver Wings of a pilot.
2nd Lieut. Sonaglia's 1st assignments after leaving the U.S. was in North Africa where he was transferred to Italy.
His brother, Pfc. Paul, is also in the United States Army Air Corps.
2nd Lieut. John L. Sonaglia is the 4th man from Dickinson County reported missing in action in less than a week.

SONAGLIA WAS FIRST PILOT ON BOMBER
2nd Lieut. John L. Sonaglia, 23, who has been missing in action since Tuesday, Dec. 28, was 1st pilot on a B-24 Liberator bomber which was attacked by enemy fighters near Vicenza, Italy.
His mother, Mrs. A. J. Sonaglia, 100 East Main Street, Iron Mountain, Mich., received the news in a letter from the 15th Air Force Commander.
