Tells Of Award To Lt. Jesse Sills
A communication from the Eighth Air Force Bomber Station, England, reports that Second Lieutenant Jesse G. Sill Jr., 21, husband of Mrs. Virginia Miles Sills, of Bluffton, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sills, of Petroleum, who was killed in action over England, Jan. 1, had been awarded the Air Medal.
He was the pilot of a B-17 army bomber.
The official citation read, "For meritorious achievement while participating in heavy bombardment mission in the air offensive against the enemy over Continental Europe, the courage, coolness and skill displayed by Lt. Sills upon these occasions reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States."
At the present time his wife and parents have not received any details concerning how he met death over England. They received a war department message Jan. 15, informing them that he had been fatally injured.
