Notes of Interest to the Service From All Along the Lines
Lieutenant William A. Shunk, Eighth Calvary, was married last week at Fort Clark, Texas to Mrs. Carrie Saxe Pratt, a daughter of Chaplain Sherman M. Merrill, United States Army. Chaplain Merrill performed the marriage service.

She was born in Poultney, Vermont, the daughter of Major Sherman Morton Merrill, United States Army and Cordelia Stafford Merrill. Married to Colonel William A. Shunk, United States Army on June 14, 1885 at Fort Clark, Texas, she traveled among Army posts in the United States and Asia. She wrote articles about her travel experiences for leading magazines and was the author of the book, An Army Woman in the Philippines, which described her experiences in the Philippines. She was a member of the Army and Navy Chapter, D.A.R.; the Army Relief Society and was a former member of the Board of Governors of the Washington Club. She died on Thursday, October 30, 1930, at her residence at the Brighton Hotel at 2123 California Street. She was survived by her husband, one daughter, Carrie C. Shunk and four sisters: Mrs. Fred Damman who was married to Colonel Danman, United States Army; Mrs. H.M. Sweet of Louisville, Kentucky; Mrs. Lee Clinton of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mrs. L.A. O’Brien of Oklahoma and one niece, Mrs. George Bruner, married to Lieut. Bruner, United States Army. Arrangements were by Gawler’s at 1754 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest. Services were held at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church at Connecticut Avenue and Bancroft Place Northwest. Interment was in Arlington National Cemetery.
