Former Army Officer and Newspaper Man Succumbs
New York, Aug. 3. — Major Nathan Jordan Shelton, U. S. A. retired, died early today in Veterans Hospital 81, in the Bronx. He was 51 years old. He suffered an apoplectic stroke in Miami last February.
During the war, Major Shelton was on the staff of General Carlton. Major Shelton was born in Omaha, and after two years at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, resigned to enter the army. He went to the Philippines with the 39th Volunteer Infantry during the insurrection there. He was later commissioned a captain with the regular army, assigned to coast artillery. Retired for physical disability in 1907, he became a member of the editorial staff of "The World." His wife, Gwendolyn Barry Shelton, survives. His body will be taken to Washington tomorrow for burial in Arlington Cemetery.
