He was the son of Frederick Dent Sharp and Ellanor Longstreth. A 1940 graduate of Bard College, he worked in Buenos Aires, Argentina for First National City Bank until the second world war started. He served as an air intelligence specialist in the Army Air Corps; leaving the service and signing on as a foreign service officer. For the next twenty-six years, he lived in Latin America, Spain and North Africa with consular consular responsibilities that included economic development, political-military affairs and intelligence; he also served as the Deputy Chief of Mission. He retired in 1973; returning to his first career as a banker and retired again in 1983. He was survived by a son, a daughter, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
