2 Lt. Peter Roccia was serving as bombardier on board the B-24 #42-40997, nicknamed the "Screamin' Mimi" when the plane crashed near Saint-Cyr-de-Valorges, Loire, France. Five of the crew were killed; two ran and were returned to their unit, and one was taken as a POW at Stalag Luft IV.
