HOUSTON - Bertie Jahugh Mixon, 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Chickasaw County to William Jahugh Mixon and Agnes Larkin Mixon. He was a 1945 graduate of Houston High School. He attended Mississippi State University until being drafted into the U.S. Army. He fought in the Korean War , where he earned the Korean Service Medal and the Bronze Star. After he returned home, he worked in management at Rice Stix Manufacturing Co. He then worked for the U.S. Post Office from 1966 until his retirement. He married his wife, Sue Lambert Mixon, in 1953. He was a member of the Houston Masonic Lodge No. 67 for 60 years.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Houston Funeral Home with Dr. Daniel Heeringa officiating. Burial will follow at Chickasaw Memorial Gardens in Houston with Masonic rites.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sue Lambert Mixon of Houston; two sisters, Pauline Mixon Drane of West Point and Margaret Mixon Stafford of Philadelphia; one brother, Tommy Lee Mixon (Jo) of Arlington, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Paul Anthony Byars, Bruce Franks, Ken Fullilove, Charlie Tillman, Tracey Whitt and Larry Nichols.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Houston Domino Players and the Houston Masonic Lodge No. 67 members.

Memorials may be made to the Houston First Baptist Church, 201 W. Madison St., Houston, MS 38851; or The Gideons International , P.O. Box 365, Houston, MS 38851.
