Mrs. Kathryn Riley Carman, 79, Murray, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at 9:55 a.m. at West View Nursing Home, Murray.

A retired professor at Murray State University, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Murray, Murray Civic Music Association, Murray Woman's Club and Murray Magazine Club.

Mrs. Carman received her associate of arts degree from Christian College, Columbia, Mo., her bachelor of arts degree from Murray State University, and her master of business administration from Indiana University.

Her husband, Dr. Max G. Carman, preceded her in death. Born July 10, 1923, in Paris, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late James Rudolph Riley and Wilna Olif Shell Riley.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Sheryl Kathryn Alexander and husband, Urey Woodson Alexander Jr., Richardson, Texas; one son, W. Craig Carman and wife, Nancy, Hendersonville, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. Ann Riley Hackett, Jonesboro, Ark.; one brother, James R. Riley, Martin, Tenn.; two grandchildren Urey Woodson (Trey) Alexander III and Robert Griffin Alexander.


A memorial service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Murray. The Rev. Larry Daniel will officiate.

Private burial rites will be at the Murray City Cemetery.

Visitation will be at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Dr. Max G. Carman Scholarship for Mathematics at Murray State University, 100 Nash House, MSU., Murray, KY 42071.
