Julius Weber a wealthy retired brewer was about 52 years old.

He was sucessful in making quite a fortune and was able to retire to the postion of a country gentleman. He had several land holdings and sold his brewery so he could provide a comfortable living for his family. It is said he took pride in his family. He also was said to be a moody man that went for days without saying a word to his family.

It is thought that he may have thought or found out his son Adolph robbed the Placer County Bank of over $5,000.00 earlier in the year. Upon the threat of being exposed, Adolph silenced the entire family forever.
