Nelson (Nellie) Green, 90, of Wakeman, departed his earthly life on April 23, 2012 at his home. He was born August 7, 1921 in Elyria, Ohio to the union of Ezra R. and Hazel M. (Bristol) Green. Nelson graduated from Wakeman High School in 1939.He was lifelong area resident and a proud descendant of one of the first three families of Wakeman Township (Bristol). At eleven years of age, upon his father's death, Nelson and his mother ran the family farm in Wakeman Township. He was a life member of the Wakeman Congregational Church U.C.C., a 67 year member of the Wakeman Grange, boy scout master for fourteen years of the former Wakeman troop # 238, a 60 year member of Gibson Lodge # 301 F & A M, he was secretary for 54 years of Wakeman Chapter #177 R.A.M. of which he was a 60 year member, a former member of the Wakeman Fire Department, past patron of Wakeman Chapter # 460 O.E.S., a thirty second degree Mason Toledo Valley of the Scottish Rite and secretary of the Firelands Scottish Rite Association, Norwalk Council and Commandery and former member of the Firelands Lions Club..
Nelson worked many jobs throughout his life which included farming and he retired as a rural mail carrier out of the Wakeman Post Office.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Ella Mae K. (nee Read), sons, Daniel, New London, Kenneth, Wakeman, Dennis (Stephanie), Lagrange and daughter Diane (James) Garner, Wakeman, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, sister Caroline E. Bechstein of Arcadia Florida / Florence Township, brother-in-law Richard E. (Patsy) Read, Olmsted Township, 6 nephews and several great nephews.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard B. Green, infant brother, Nathaniel Borden Green, sister-in-law Olive Green, brother-in-law Richard Bechstein, nephew James A. Read and great nephew Michael R. Green.
Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Wakeman Congregational Church. Masonic Services will be at 7:00 pm Friday followed by visitation until 9:00 p.m. at the church. Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
