"Mrs. Juliet Gorton Lewis, who, if she had lived until August 23, would have been 92 years old, died Sunday following a lingering illness which, however, had confined her to her bed only a few weeks. Mrs. Lewis had been a resident of Canastota for 45 years and for a long period of years, up to about 20 years ago, was prominently identified with the hotel interests of the village with her husband, the late Hiram Lewis, who was one of the veteran hotel men of his day in Madison County, having been interested in the conduct of three hotels at Morrisville before coming to Canastota. In this village the Lewises conducted the Lewis House, now the Weaver Hotel, and following the death of Mr. Lewis the wife conducted the property for a year or two until she sold it to John B. Weaver, who retired from the hotel business here May 1 last. Mrs. Lewis was twice married, her first husband being Henry Tucker ... Surviving is one son, Wert W. Tucker, of this village; two granddaughters, Mrs. Fred C. Fancher of Canastota, and Miss Edith Williamson, a member of the faculty of the Yonkers schools, and a grandson, John H. Williamson of Falconer, formerly of this village ... burial made beside the body of her husband in Lenox Rural Cemetery." [Madison County Times (Chittenango, NY)]
